Discover God. Discovering Life.

“Discovering God. Discovering Life.”

We the people of Walnut Grove Church are on a journey where we are discovering God and the life He created us to live. On this journey, we are discovering a biblical way of life that allows a person to receive and experience the abundant life Jesus taught about. We have summed up this way of life with values that we call “Discovery Points”. We believe as we embrace this way of living we are changed into the people that God desires for us to be and we experience life as God intended it. We encourage you to explore these values and we hope that it will lead you to participate with us in them.

Discovery Points

A LIFE OF WORSHIP

We are discovering that we were created to live for something larger than ourselves. We were created to live a life of worship. We gather to worship God in a way that develops a deep relationship with Him. Our worship continues beyond song and word to deeds and action. All we are and all we have are fully surrendered to God. We worship God with our time, talent, and treasure for the sake of the church and for the sake of the Gospel in exchange for eternal treasure stored up in heaven. We take great joy in partnering with God to change the world with whatever we possess. We live a life of worship.

A LIFE OF COMMUNITY

Jesus did not live alone. Neither should we. We are discovering that we were created to live deeply with one another, sharing each other’s burdens, sharing our possessions, praying for and confessing our sins to one another, suffering and celebrating together. As we throw ourselves into honest and loving relationships, God transforms us and we become the people God meant for us to be. We are discovering that community is experienced as we gather together in both large and small groups to study the Bible, to remember Jesus’ death through the ceremony of communion, by publicly baptizing people who desire to publicly declare their faith, and to serve in the local church and community together. A life of community is enhanced as we each commit to peace in our relationships, are kind to one another, forgive each other, exhort one another, and as we support and pray for our pastors as they shepherd us according to God’s Word. We were not created to live alone. We live in community.

A LIFE ON MISSION

We are discovering that every follower of Jesus is called to be a missionary. We are discovering a mission field in our local community and around the world that requires us to leave our times of gathering and to scatter into our communities. As we make ourselves available to God each day, we are discovering that He will send us to friends, family, neighborhoods, parks, schools, work places, hobby groups, sports teams, grocery stores, and even around the world to share the life changing message of Jesus. We live life on mission.

A LIFE OF MERCY

Just as Christ has been merciful toward us, we are committed to showing mercy to others. The communities in which we live should become better places to live because the church is there practicing mercy. We are discovering that through acts of service, sacrifice, love, and compassion, we prove we care about the things God cares about. This mercy is extended through personal relationships with people who have yet to discover the life that God created for them to live. Just like Jesus, we are discovering that as we approach people with mercy and compassion they are attracted to Jesus and the Gospel. We live a life of mercy.
